In addition to current burdens of the economy, Wisconsin family health care premiums have gone up almost 75% since 2000. That's according to a new report from the group Families USA.
The report shows health care costs have gone up an estimated 4.8 times faster than the earnings of Wisconsin workers.
The high premiums leave some employers with little choice but to drop their employees' coverage, driving up the number of uninsured workers, and if employees are still covered through their company, they're being asked to pay greater premiums while getting less coverage.
"We don't blame the employers for thiseither, they've got a bottom line they have to look at just like every family does and it's an unfair choice for them to have to make," said Ann Vogel with Citizen Action of Wisconsin.
Citizen Action recently launched its "got healthcare?" campaign which educates and asks candidates running for office in 2008 to take action on the health care crisis.
