Cardinal Health Inc. is funding a new grant initiative aimed at helping hospitals and clinics cut down on preventable problems - and deaths - through new programs.
The Dublin-based company established the $1 million grant fund to be given to hospitals through individual grants of as much as $50,000. The grant will fund programs at hospitals that increase quality patient care and improve operations.
Driving the initiative is research Cardinal cites from the Washington, D.C.-based Institute of Medicine, which estimated as few as 44,000 and as many as 98,000 people die in hospitals each year because of preventable errors.
Cardinal Health Inc., the largest publicly held company in Ohio, recorded $1 billion in profit on $81.3 billion in revenue in its fiscal 2006.
