It's called the Hospital-Acquired Infection Prevention Project and it's targeting those infections people get during their hospital stays. According to the state Department of Health, there are about 1.7 million hospital-acquired infections a year in the United States, and 99,000 deaths annually as a result.
Since January, all acute care hospitals in the state have been required to report certain hospital-acquired infections to the health department. That information will be used in the new initiative."
